The Maine Afterschool Network (MASN) is designated as Maine’s catalyst to inspiring and galvanizing the vision and planning for afterschool for all Maine children and youth. Housed at the University of Maine at Farmington, MASN provides a hub and clearing-house for collaborative efforts to achieve the vision of the Network to ensure that:
Every child will have access to quality affordable afterschool programming meeting the needs of the child and the family.
The overarching goals of the Maine Afterschool Network are to:
1) Foster statewide, regional and local partnerships and advocate for policy development through clear communication to policymakers and participants and clarification and coordination of services across the state.
2) Assist in the securing of resources needed to sustain new and existing afterschool programs.
3) Work to ensure programs in the state of Maine are of high quality and meet the needs of the child, the family and the community.
To accomplish these goals, MASN engages the expertise of organizations and individuals from across the state of Maine. These connections support partnerships and provide opportunities for communication to policymakers and participants. MASN is based at the University of Maine at Farmington in order to maximize resources and staff support. Working with advocates for afterschool programming from across the state of Maine, MASN meetings also promote afterschool programming, quality assessment, and a forum for discussion, collaboration and coordination of efforts across disciplines and systems.
